Core Curriculum

IB: Diploma Programme (DP)

At NEWS Point Academy, the core curriculum is anchored in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, a globally recognized framework known for its academic rigor and emphasis on whole-student development. Through this program, students are encouraged to think critically, ask thoughtful questions, and make meaningful connections across subject areas. The IB approach helps students grow as independent learners while building strong skills in communication, research, writing, and problem-solving.

The IB Diploma Programme gives families confidence that their child is receiving a rigorous, well-rounded education that prepares them for success after high school. Along with strong academics, IB helps students build global awareness, personal responsibility, and a broader understanding of the world, equipping them to thrive in college, career, and life.

College & Career Readiness

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) & Arizona Career Information System (AZCIS)

NEWS Point Academy is committed to helping students prepare for life after graduation through intentional college and career readiness support. Programs like AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) help students strengthen essential academic habits such as organization, note-taking, time management, and self-advocacy, while also encouraging a college-going mindset. These skills support students throughout high school and beyond as they begin planning for their future.

In addition, students have access to the Arizona Career Information System (AZCIS), a valuable tool that helps them explore career interests, identify postsecondary options, and create clear, personalized plans for life after high school. Together, these resources help students gain direction, confidence, and the practical tools needed to make informed decisions about college and career pathways.

Interventions

IXL

At NEWS Point Academy, student support is strengthened through the use of IXL, an interactive learning platform that provides targeted practice in key academic areas. IXL helps students build confidence by allowing them to work at their own pace while receiving immediate feedback and reinforcement. This personalized approach helps close learning gaps and strengthen foundational skills in a way that feels approachable and manageable.

IXL is an important part of the school’s commitment to meeting students where they are and helping them grow. Whether a student needs extra practice, intervention, or skill reinforcement, IXL provides an additional layer of support that can be tailored to individual needs and academic goals.

Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment: National Education Equity Lab, Grand Canyon University, & Community College Partnership (FREE Dual Enrollment Credits)

Through dual enrollment opportunities with the National Education Equity Lab, Grand Canyon University, and community college partners, NEWS Point Academy students can begin earning free college credit while still in high school. These programs give students access to advanced coursework and valuable exposure to the expectations of college-level learning, helping them build both academic momentum and confidence.

Dual enrollment gives students the opportunity to begin their college journey early while still receiving the support of their high school environment. They can deepen their learning, earn college credit, and potentially save time and money on a future degree. Through opportunities like these, NEWS Point Academy helps students graduate prepared for success in college and beyond.

This program is designed to support athletic development while also emphasizing leadership, discipline, teamwork, and character—qualities that benefit students in every area of life.

Through HPP, students have the opportunity to strengthen their work ethic, build resilience, and grow as leaders while balancing academics and athletics in a supportive school environment. CTE Program

EVIT Partnership & On-campus CTE Courses

NEWS Point Academy provides career-focused learning opportunities through its EVIT partnership and on-campus Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses. These programs give students access to hands-on, industry-aligned experiences that allow them to explore career interests, develop technical skills, and gain exposure to real-world pathways in high-demand fields.

CTE opportunities provide students with a valuable advantage as they connect their education to future careers, build practical experience, and in some cases work toward certifications or specialized training before graduation. This blend of academic preparation and workforce readiness helps students leave high school with both direction and opportunity.
